Alternative choices¶
An <alt> child contributes one choice to an alternative question. Depending on the question, the choice can be a proposition, a resolve goal, or a perform goal.
Use in a question¶
Place one or more alt children in an alt_question supplied to findout or raise:
<findout type="alt_question">
<alt><resolve type="wh_question" predicate="monthly_payment"/></alt>
<alt><resolve type="wh_question" predicate="interest_rate"/></alt>
</findout>
Resolve/perform alternatives let the user choose which question or action to pursue, for example:
<raise type="alt_question">
<alt><perform action="book_train_ticket"/></alt>
<alt><resolve type="wh_question" predicate="train_delays"/></alt>
</raise>
Proposition alternatives¶
For a choice among values of a proposition, use a child proposition:
<findout type="alt_question">
<alt><proposition predicate="destination" value="chelsea"/></alt>
<alt><proposition predicate="destination" value="fulham"/></alt>
</findout>
Question parameters can also list propositional alternatives for a question:
<parameters question_type="wh_question" predicate="minute_to_set">
<alt><proposition predicate="minute_to_set" value="0"/></alt>
<alt><proposition predicate="minute_to_set" value="1"/></alt>
</parameters>
The alt element has no attributes of its own. It appears as question content; it is not a plan item. See Findout, raise, and Question parameters.
